|Hong Kong-based Tungda Electrical & Lighting Ltd is known for its energy-efficient, long-lasting products such as these Duralite-brand induction lamps|
Environmentally-friendly, creatively crafted or technologically smart, lighting accessories are dazzling global markets
Green styles are increasingly grabbing the spotlight in the lighting accessories market, and innovative and intelligent designs also continue to shine.
Tungda Electrical & Lighting Ltd is losing no time in developing energy-efficient and long-lasting products. "Energy-saving is an important topic," says Kathy Chan, Sales and Marketing Executive, Overseas Market.
The firm offers Duralite induction lamps. "Unlike other lamps, there is no electrode inside and so it's very special," she notes, adding that the devices typically consume 55-165W.
"They will last for 80,000 hours, and even if left on 24 hours a day they will last for almost 10 years. Nearly all the energy consumed generates light, very little creates heat," she insists.
"Apart from large international corporations, we were the first induction-lamp developer in China and the first to successfully bring these products to market. We can also offer the best prices," Ms Chan claims.
With a different product focus, Shenzhen Permay Technology Co Ltd provides dimmers, one-to-four-gang on/off switches and hand-held remote controls.
"We develop intelligent lighting and controls for homes, hotel rooms or offices, and our products can control each other," remarks Sales Manager Yolanda Yu.
One example is a remote control that can be operated from a computer using the Internet. "You can be in your office but still control the lights at home. Even the installation is simple," Ms Yu explains.
The switch plates come in different styles and textures, including crystal, metal or wood. "They can be changed to suit customers' ideas or an interior design," she points out.
Lighting fixtures for ceilings and walls are the specialisation of Malet (HK) Ltd. "We must satisfy customers on three issues: attractive products, high quality and agreeable prices," says Manager Benson Leung. "Our prices are medium, but the quality is superior. We provide good value for money."
The company stresses the use of decorative glass covers that fit over the fixtures' metallic back-plates. "That glass takes many shapes, including half-moons, diamonds and triangles," Mr Leung says. "The colours and patterns are diverse too. Special models for youngsters depict cars, trains and dinosaurs."
Endless decorative possibilities can be created by interchangeable glass covers and clips, with the latter also coming in many styles and materials. "Consumers care whether the glass is well-designed, elegant and attractive," Mr Leung observes.
"Different countries have different needs and tastes, and it's interesting and challenging to design for different markets. When the products sell, we feel a sense of success," he adds.
Usually, the fixtures measure 250, 300 or 400mm, with one, two or three lampholders. "Normally, we start with white glass," Mr Leung notes, "but the finish may be alabaster, frosted, printed or opal."
Creativity also abounds at Feelux Co Ltd, which uses fluorescent lighting innovatively, as exemplified by its SlimLine linear fixtures, where the tubes are placed extremely closely together to create "even" illumination without shadows or dark zones.
"This inventive idea won a Top Design Award at LivinLuce 2007 in Milan, Italy," says Assistant Manager of Overseas Sales Elly Han. "It's an excellent solution for display shelves or cove lighting."
Feelux also offers DimSlim, which claims to be the world's smallest dimmable fluorescent lamp. "It is very slim and saves space," Ms Han notes. "This allows designers to consider a fully dimmable fluorescent lighting system with built-in electronic ballast that is suitable for small spaces."
Apart from saving energy, the dimming function also brings other advantages. "It can change the mood, which may be ideal for special occasions, perhaps in restaurants."
Ms Han says that the firm's products are "extremely reliable" and above par. "We manufacture at our own factory, which allows us good control over quality, and our products are sent to Korea for quality inspection."
Power efficiency is also a consideration at Guangdong Jinli Electrical Appliance Co Ltd, which produces energy-saving lighting products including spiral compact fluorescent lamps (CFLs) such as 13W model CFL-2U13W. "We can guarantee the quality and an 8,000-hour lifetime for this item," says Department Manager Tony Wu.
Also a manufacturer of switches, the firm sees buoyant sales in three-gang switch model SK86-3GS, which measures 86x86mm. "It is a best-seller that suits the local outlook in Southeast Asian markets like Vietnam and the Philippines," Mr Wu says.
Guangdong Jinli also offers ballasts, such as model 90T-40W, which has an extra-thin body to fit easily into fixtures. Sockets are also among the company's output.
Another maker of low-power-consumption devices is Shaoxing Deren Electrical Appliance Co Ltd, which makes energy-saving lamps in both standard and unusual shapes and colours.
"The lamps last for 6,000-10,000 hours with energy efficiency in excess of 80%," advises General Manager Tom Cheung.
"We have models shaped like plum blossoms or lotus flowers. Spiral and circular lamps find buyers too, while others resemble tiny Christmas trees. Colourful varieties appeal especially to South American buyers," he adds.
"With many customers from Europe, our prices are competitive because we do everything ourselves, including making the tubes. We control the quality so that customers can have total confidence," Mr Cheung notes.
The firm also offers a traditional, pear-shaped light bulb that nevertheless contains energy-saving tubes.
As is abundantly clear, a dazzling range of lighting accessories is brightening up the entire world.
